The CRM data source type in SSRS sets the GUID of the CRM user running the report in the context_info in SQL. The filtered views can then read this out and filter the results based on the CRM user’s ID (as opposed to using the credentials of the SRS app pool)

· Take a look at this function in your organization DB (this is used in the filtered views):

fn_FindUserGuid

You can see this in a SQL server trace, the challege was finding it

Main Benefit

The SRS Data Connector is a service that connects the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4 Community Technology Preview 2 Server computer to the Microsoft SQL Report Server computer. The SRS Data Connector eliminates the Kerberos double-hop authentication that was required for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 deployments where Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services was installed on a separate computer. The SRS Data Connector is installed as a separate component.

About Kerberos Double Hop ( from http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/06/13/understanding-kerberos-double-hop.aspx )

There are requirements for a service to be able to perform Kerberos double hop. The service account needs to be trusted for delegation. Meaning it must be trusted to act upon another user’s behalf. Source and target servers must be in the same forest or there must be a forest level trust between forests and the first level service account must be in the trusted forest root.

How it Works:

Step 1 – Client provides credentials and domain controller returns a Kerberos TGT to the client.

Step 2 – Client uses TGT to request a service ticket to connect to Server 1.

Step 3 – Client connects to Server 1 and provides both TGT and service ticket.

Step 4 – Server 1 uses the clients TGT to request a service ticket so Server 1 can connect to Server 2 .

Step 5 – Server 1 connects to Server 2 using the client’s credentials.

Here is simple way of configuring MS CRM Email Router for individual use.

Before doing this make sure you have users / queues created in CRM who have email method selected as “Email Router” & not “outlook”. Also make sure these users & queues have right email address, corresponding to mail server you are using.

In email router config manger create incoming email profile as shown below. Give ur pop3 server address & a easy to identify profile name. in “Advanced” put the incoming port number provided by your email provider.

Then configure an outgoing email profile as shown below. Give your smtp server address & a easy to identify profile name. use windows authentication if you have active directory logins. in “Advanced” put the outgoing port number provided by your email provider.

:

Once you have both profiles ready, go to deployment tab & click on “New”. If you use online CRM (cloud CRM) use online service provider else you can choose “My Company” (for on premise installation of CRM). Put the url that you use to log on to CRM in “Microsoft CRM Server” box. Put access credentials (windows AD or other email provider ). Selec the right incoming & outgoing profile names. Click ok.

Now in “users, queues “ tab try to load data. When you successfully load data. Try to test access to see if you are able to connect to your mail servers.

Before doing this make sure you have users / queues created in CRM who have email method selected as “Email Router” & not “outlook”. Also make sure these users & queues have right email address, corresponding to mail server you are using.

For official blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/crm/archive/2010/08/03/microsoft-dynamics-crm-2011-the-demo-video.aspx

At the Microsoft WPC conference last week, there was a session called “Taking the Covers Off of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 5”. I watched the recording of this session and tried to provide a summary of the session highlights (to save you an hour of viewing time!). Here we go:

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 5 (nee “V. Next”) is now branded as Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011!

When we heard this news on Monday we debated how people would pronounce it. Since I call Microsoft Office 2010 as “Office two thousand ten” I was thinking I would use the same pattern for CRM 2011 as “CRM Thousand and Eleven”.

However both Bryan Nielsen and Andy Bybee from MSFT pronounced it “CRM Twenty Eleven” instead of “CRM Two Thousand and Eleven”. I guess I will start calling it CRM Twenty Eleven.

Key messaging for CRM 2011

You all know that CRM 4.0 had “Power of Choice” as a key message

The key message for CRM 2011 will be the “Power of Productivity“, broken down into three categories:

Familiar Experiences

Native Outlook Experience (preview pane, ribbon)

Advanced personalization

Connected Experiences

Visualizations, dashboards and graphical navigation

Guided processes (scripts)

Intelligent Experiences

Contextual document repositories (w/Sharepoint)

Teamwork and collaboration

Microsoft is expanding the global availability of CRM Online

Will include 8 additional markets

40 markets, 41 languages at the end of 2010

Poor Tobago was the punchline on a few jokes!

CRM 2011 will help you manage both customer AND custom relationships

Enough with the Powerpoints, let’s see the DEMO! (courtesy of Andy Bybee). It starts around the 8:50 minute mark of the video.

Starts with the Outlook client (of course)

You can now view the related records AND the regarding records right in Outlook

You can convert an email to Opportunity directly

During the demo, Andy selected a lookup. If you pay close attention, you can see that now CRM 2011 lookups allow you to select views in addition to Quick Find! Huge!

Now you can also do the following from an Outlook email(with CRM data)

Add Connection

Insert Template

Insert Article

Attach Sales Literature

Microsoft demonstrated its next-generation CRM release at the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference today. Previously known as CRM5, the product’s official name is Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011. Along with the release (coming in beta in September), will be the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace, described as an online catalog to provide an easy way for partners to market and distribute solutions to Microsoft Dynamics customers.

“The marketplace will allow customers to quickly search, discover and apply industry-specific applications and solution extensions from Microsoft and its partners to help them accelerate and extend their CRM and ERP implementations,” the company explains. “Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace will be integrated within Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, allowing customers to search for applications directly from within their CRM solution.”

“Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will further deliver ‘The Power of Productivity’ through familiar, intelligent and connected experiences for customers and partners,” says Brad Wilson, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. “For customers, it offers new levels of user productivity and collaboration that meet their specific business needs with a low total cost of ownership. For partners, it unlocks new opportunities and provides a single development environment for cloud-based and on-premise deployments. Together, this new release raises the bar in the CRM market.”

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will be released in online form before software form, as Microsoft is heavily pushing the cloud.

The default attachment file size limit in Microsoft Dynamic CRM 4.0 is 5 MB. There is good reason for this – as a general rule you should be placing some restrictions on the amount of file data that can enter CRM so that the database can maintain a reasonable size and so that performance is optimized. However, your business may find the need to increase this size a little in order to handle larger file attachments. Here are the instructions to increase the file size limit to 10 MB. You can go larger than this, but pay close attention to the table size and performance over time as you want to keep CRM running as well as possible. Note – even though the System Settings option looks like this it would apply to email attachments only, it does apply to “notes” type attachments as well. Finally, this procedure to change the max attachment size is not an officially published recommendation, so use this at your own risk. How to increase the max attachment size in CRM 4.0:

1. Open the application web.config (C:\Inetpub\CRM\web.config).

2. Locate the <httpRuntime> key within the <system.web> element and change the values to the following:

<httpRuntime executionTimeout=”9999″ maxRequestLength=”10240″/>

3. Locate the <httpRuntime> key within the <system.web> element of the <location path=’MSCRMServices”> element, and change it to the following:

<httpRuntime maxRequestLength=”10240″/>

4. Save and close the web.config.

5. Open the CRM web application (http://crm).

6. Navigate to Settings | Administration | System Settings.

7. Click the E-mail tab.

8. Change the maximum file size (in kilobytes) field to 10240.

9. Click Ok to save the changes.

10. Perform IISReset.

As we prepare to move data as gigantic as 73 lacs+ ( 7 million ) , here are few facts about MS CRM data import capabilities:

Scribe is the fastest supported way of migrating data to CRM (over & above CRM data migration manager)

CRM data migration manager is slower & supports files up to 32 MB only.

As per the scribe speed measured by our team, we will need approx. 17 days to import around 73 lac records.

Hence we think, direct SQL data import would be the fastest way to do this import. We can try this on dev / UAT first. (how ever this is not supported by microsoft)

Improving MS CRM Data Migration Performance

http://community.dynamics.com/blogs/cscrmblog/comments/6740.aspx

Status and Status Reason values need to be converted to the number value before using data migration manager – see http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/rc/regcont/en_us/OP/articles/statestatus.aspx for default values.

When importing multiple related files i.e. Assigning Opportunities to Contacts, you have to ensure you reference a mandatory field in the mapping between the two entities, using Contact Full Name will not work.

Ensure date fields are correctly formatted to fit with the date system settings

If you want to load in new picklist values at point of data migration then ensure you tick the box on the first step of the migration to update CRM with any new values

Review your data before you load it, if duplicates exist and you migrate data to these records migration manager will fail as it will not be able to uniquely identify the correct record to associate the data to

Name your imports intelligently as you will you use these names to delete the data if the migration partially fails

If importing data with a link to a system user, Microsoft CRM does not automatically match say the owner field to your specified user. You have to include as one of your files a user csv file that is an export of the users set-up in the CRM system, Migration manager will then ask you which field in this file maps to a user set-up in the system and then which field from the file to use as the relationship to the user record in your source files i.e. I always do a vlookup in the source files of owner and replace with the domain login name as stored in CRM. I will blog later on this in more detail!

If you plan to import in contacts and your contacts are not all unique as a tip create a new field in your database called DM Unique key and make this field mandatory, then populate your source files with a unique number for each of your contacts and use this value as your mapping value between records i.e. Importing Accounts and Contacts where the Accounts reference a primary Contact, add to the Accounts csv a new column that references the new Contact DM unique key and use this to map the primary contact to a contact in the system.

Microsoft CRM has an import maximum file limit set in the config file ensure your migration files are below this

Before Migration remove any line breaks, ” and , from any text field

Ensure that your text fields do not exceed 3000 in character length

Allow plenty of time to prep, test and load your data into CRM, it takes longer than you think and you always hit errors with data cleanliness
